Blacker: Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 24-2411

This car was built at Hendrick Motorsports in late 1994 and referred to as “Blacker” for its original black paint coat, DuPont’s ChromaLusion® paint. Originally kept a secret under the code name “W Plus Coupe,” Eddie Dickerson, then director of chassis engineering, called for Blacker’s construction to be an experimental research and development project for the new 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. But it was clear the car was destined for more than just the wind tunnel. Under the care of Ray Evernham’s “Rainbow Warriors” and piloted by Jeff Gordon, this is the most successful Hendrick Motorsports race car to date, accumulating six pole positions, 12 victories and more than $1.5 million in earnings from 1995-1999.
