No. 25 Folgers Chevrolet

In late 1985, Tim Richmond was recruited by Rick Hendrick to drive Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 25 Folger’s Coffee Chevrolet for the 1986 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season. On Father’s Day in 1987, the car went to Victory Lane in its first race – at Riverside (Calif.) International Raceway. It would be the last win for Richmond, who passed away on Aug. 13, 1989 after a seven-year NASCAR career. The car was put into storage after the Riverside win. It was later “re-skinned” as a Chevy Lumina and used for the filming of “Days of Thunder” – famously as the black Exxon car in the movie’s opening sequence. It also was raced by the No. 25 Ken Schrader Kodiak team for short tracks and road courses. This car has been completely restored to Richmond’s as-raced-at-Riverside specifications, including many of the original engine components. The helmet, shoes and gloves displayed are the ones worn by Richmond at Riverside.
