1984: Rick Hendrick founds All-Star Racing

In 1984, Rick Hendrick founded the team that would later be known as Hendrick Motorsports. That year, All-Star Racing fielded a one-car NASCAR Sprint Cup Series effort with five full-time employees and 5,000 square feet of leased workspace. Geoff Bodine drove the entire 30-race campaign in the No. 5 Chevrolet, and the team finished ninth in championship points after earning three victories and three pole positions. The organization was rechristened Hendrick Motorsports in 1985.
