2002: Johnson wins first Cup race

Jimmie Johnson had a memorable homecoming during his rookie season, winning his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. On April 20, 2002, the El Cajon, Calif., native led 62 laps in his No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet. It was the first of three wins for Johnson that season.
