Ray Evernham

When Rick Hendrick paired Ray Evernham’s technical know-how with Jeff Gordon’s driving talent, a prolific relationship was forged. As a crew chief, Evernham helped Gordon to 1993 NASCAR Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year honors and two race wins in 1994, including the inaugural Brickyard 400. Details mattered to Evernham, who pored over everything from the car’s handling to pit crew performance. In his third fulltime season as a crew chief, he won seven races en route to the 1995 Cup title, his first of three championships with Gordon. Evernham’s No. 24 “Rainbow Warriors” team earned 47 wins, 116 top-five finishes, 140 top-10s and 30 pole positions in seven seasons.
